Tonka introduced their Aerial Ladder truck in 1954. Hydraulics were added in 1957.

These earlier models carried two utility ladders. Which was unfortunate as the lower ladder was in contact with the bed and often led to scratching and corrosion.

The ladder is raised by means of the crank at the front and the crank to the side extends the ladder.

Another subtle difference is the earlier addition of decals to the sides of the running boards and gas tank.

This toy is in superb condition. The only paint loss is to the top of the gas tank and top of the ladder support. There is no corrsion on the bed but there are faint “tracks” caused by sliding the lower ladder in and out.

It is extremely difficult to find this toy in this condition.
