Description
Tonka introduced their Aerial Ladder truck in 1954. The decals showed M.F.D. which stood for Mound Fire Department…changed to T.F.D. in ’56.
“An authentic reproduction in scale…”, it was designed by Charles Groschen and based on a Minneapolis F.D. Ford fire truck that was manufactured by the Peter Pirsch Co. of Wisconsin. The Pirsch company specialized in fire apparatus and made their last truck in 1987.
Tonka added hydraulics to raise the ladder in 1957.
The earlier non-hydraulic models carried two aluminum utility ladders which was unfortunate as the lower ladder was in contact with the bed and often led to scratching. As you can see from the photos, the the bottom ladder left tracks.
The ladder is raised by means of the crank at the front and the crank to the side extends the ladder. The ladder is fully functional.
Condition is superb!
