Description
The Toy Guidance Council voted the Suburban Pumper “Outstanding Example Of American Toy Production” in 1956. Tonka designer Charles M. Groschen used a truck used by Mound Fire Department as inspiration for Tonka’s Pumper. Electrostatically painted, these toys managed to withstand the rigors of childhood play throughout the years.
What makes this particular toy unusual is the fact that the 1956 Pumper was the only model with threaded fittings for the hoses. This 1957 version is clearly a transition model showing the ’57 scoop with the ’56 threaded fittings…very unusual!
This toy is in superb condition. The paint is all original but the hoses are non functional replacements.
This is a beautiful example of American toymanship at its finest!
