Amazing original private label Tonka truck from 1954.
Tonka made a lot of private label toys over the years. One such client company was Our Own Hardware.
Founded in 1913, Northwestern Hardware Company was a wholesale hardware company. By 1933 they supplied 450 member stores throughout the northwest. The company name was changed to Our Own Hardware in 1949. The company merged with Hardware Wholesalers in 1998 and the name was changed to Do It Best.
Tonka private labelled trucks for Our Own Hardware from 1953 to 1956. This version is from 1954. Most private label trucks had a dual axle on the trailer but there were some that did not…as is the case here.
The toy is in superb condition. All original but for one rear door handle.
Extremely hard to find in this condition, I sold one like it last year. And as luck would have it, I have since managed to acquire this one.
