Amazing original private label Tonka truck from 1954.
Tonka made a lot of private label toys over the years. One such client company was Our Own Hardware.
Founded in 1913, Northwestern Hardware Company was a wholesale hardware company. By 1933 they supplied 450 member stores throughout the northwest. The company name was changed to Our Own Hardware in 1949. The company merged with Hardware Wholesalers in 1998 and the name was changed to Do It Best.
Tonka private labelled trucks for Our Own Hardware from 1953 to 1956.This version is from 1954 though it may have been sold in 1955…notice the inscription on the underside of the trailer…December 25th 1955.
The toy is in superb condition. I have seen a few of these over the years but this is by far the best that I have seen. In fact, one of lesser quality recently sold at auction for $1,450 plus commission.
